How noknokk works, start to finish, and answers to the things people ask most.
How it works
1. Write the memory
Describe the moment as you remember it — the place, roughly when, what happened, what was said. You keep the wording; we only need enough detail for the other half to be recognisable. Phone numbers, emails and street addresses are stripped before anything is stored.
2. Accept the commitments
Before a memory is stored you agree to a short set of commitments: you're 16 or older, it's your own memory, a match is only a suggestion, and you stop if you're asked to. We record which version you agreed to and when.
3. We look for the other half
Your memory is compared with everyone else's. When two accounts appear to describe the same moment, both people are shown the pair — with names, photos and profiles withheld on both sides.
4. The Two Halves view
You see your memory beside the other person's, with every detail you both mentioned marked. Identities stay hidden. Nothing is sent to anyone on your behalf.
5. The recognition question
One question only the real person could answer. Your answer is sealed until the other person answers too, so neither of you can guess from the other's words.
6. Connect, or don't
If you both accept, messaging opens and a dated keepsake of the reconnection is created for you. Declining hides the pairing permanently — it is never suggested again.
Common questions
Do I need to pay to post?
No. Writing and storing a memory is free, and so is being told a match exists. A paid subscription is only needed to open messaging and connect.
Will anyone see my name?
Not until you both accept. Before that, neither side sees a name, a face, a city or a profile.
Can I keep a memory off the public pages?
Yes — choose match-only visibility when you post. It will be used for matching but never appear publicly or in a shareable card.
Can I stop being findable?
Switch on Do not contact me in your profile. Matching stops in both directions, open matches are suppressed and messaging closes immediately.
I'm looking for family — is this the right place?
It can help, and the family path explains how. But we hold no birth, care, adoption or immigration records, we don't trace people, and we never contact a relative for you. Read the family page for what we can and cannot do.
What is refused outright?
Anything sexual or adult, any search that seeks to identify or locate a person who is or was a child, missing-person or welfare cases, and use as a dating, investigative or tracing service. Those are referred to the proper services.
How do I delete my account or a memory?
Delete a memory from your memories list at any time. For a full account and data deletion, write to support@noknokk.com and it will be actioned.
Something's wrong — a person, a message, a post about me.
Every profile and conversation carries report and block, and blocking is immediate and mutual. For anything else, including removal of content about you, contact support@noknokk.com.
How is my billing handled?
Subscriptions are billed through Stripe and can be cancelled any time; access continues to the end of the paid period. Your card details are never held by us.
