Reconnection only works if it's safe to be findable. These aren't features we added later — they're the shape of the product.
Double-blind by default
Until both people accept a match, neither side sees a name, a photo, a city or a profile. You see the memory and one line of AI reasoning — nothing else.
Verification before contact
When both sides accept, we generate a question only the real person could answer, drawn from details in both memories. Chat opens after that.
Automatic redaction
Phone numbers, email addresses and exact street addresses are stripped from public memories before they're stored. Don't put them there — but if you do, they won't be published.
Decline is permanent
Declining a match hides that pairing forever. It is never re-surfaced, re-scored or re-suggested to either of you.
No adult content
Every memory and message passes two screens: an instant filter, then an AI reviewer that blocks sexual content, solicitation, slurs, threats and anything sexualising a minor. This is an archive of everyday encounters, not a dating site.
Family searches, handled with extra care
Many people here are looking for siblings, a birth mother or father after foster care or adoption. Those searches follow the same double-blind rules, enforced harder: no contact without mutual acceptance, no addresses in public posts, a verification question before chat, and a decline that is permanent. We are not a records authority and we never contact a relative on your behalf.
Report and block everywhere
Every profile and every conversation carries report and block. Blocking is immediate and mutual — you disappear from each other entirely.
Rate limits and 16+
Posting is rate-limited to stop flooding, and account creation requires confirming you're 16 or older. Accounts found to belong to minors are removed.
Writing a memory safely
- Describe the encounter, not where either of you lives now.
- Use a place people would recognise — a park, a route, a venue — not a house number.
- Never include your phone number, email or socials; use the chat once matched.
- Choose match-only visibility if you'd rather the memory never appear publicly.
- If someone asks you to move to another app straight away, report them.
What we are not
noknokk is a memory archive with a matching service. We are not a government agency, adoption authority, records service, tracing agency, DNA service, investigator or emergency service, and we hold no birth, care or adoption records. A match is a suggestion, never proof of identity or of a family relationship. If a search concerns a missing person, a child, or anyone at risk, use these channels instead:

Consent and no-contact
- Before each memory is published you accept a short set of commitments — 16+, your own memory, matches are suggestions, and you stop if asked. We record which version you agreed to and when.
- Any member can switch on Do not contact me in their profile. It stops matching in both directions, suppresses open matches, and closes messaging immediately.
- Searches that read as being about a child are refused outright, and missing-person or court-order situations are routed to the official services above.
- You can ask us to remove content about you, or to access, correct or delete your personal information, through the contact page or by writing to support@noknokk.com.
