Terms of use
Plain-language summary of the agreement between you and noknokk.
1. Who may use noknokk
You must be 16 or older to create an account. One account per person. You are responsible for everything posted from your account.
2. What you post
Post only memories of encounters you genuinely had. Don't post someone's contact details, home address, workplace schedule, medical information, or anything intended to harass, shame or track a person. Public memories are visible to anyone, including search engines.
3. Your licence to us
You keep ownership of what you write. You grant us a licence to store, display and process it for the purpose of running the archive and the matching service. Deleting a memory removes it from the archive and from future matching.
4. Matching is a suggestion, never a fact
AI match scores and reasons are probabilistic. A match is not a verification of identity. Both sides must accept, and a verification question is generated — but you remain responsible for your own judgement before sharing anything personal.
5. Family and relative searches
noknokk may be used to look for siblings, parents or other relatives, including after foster care, out-of-home care or adoption. We are not a government agency, adoption authority, records service, tracing agency or DNA service, and we hold no birth, care or adoption records. Matches are suggestions only and are never proof of a biological or legal relationship. We will never contact a relative on your behalf, and no contact occurs unless both people accept. Where the law of your jurisdiction restricts contacting a party to an adoption or care order, complying with it remains your responsibility. If a search concerns a missing person or a person at risk, contact the police or the relevant authority — this service is not an emergency or investigative channel.
6. Pro subscriptions
Pro is billed monthly or annually and renews automatically until cancelled. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the paid period. Free features — posting, matching, notifications — are unaffected.
7. Conduct
No harassment, impersonation, solicitation, scams, or attempts to identify people who have not accepted a match. No commercial or automated posting. Blocking and reporting are always available.
8. Removal
We may remove memories or accounts that break these terms, put someone at risk, or appear to belong to a person under 16 — with or without notice where safety requires it.
9. No warranty
noknokk is provided as-is. We cannot promise that any person or relative will be found, that a match is correct, or that the service will be uninterrupted.
10. Consent, records and your undertakings
Before posting you must accept a set of safety commitments — that you are 16 or older, that the memory is your own, that a match is a suggestion and not proof of identity or family relationship, that you will stop if the other person declines or asks not to be contacted, and that noknokk is not an official records, tracing, investigative or emergency service. We record the version of that wording, the time you accepted it, and the memory it applies to. Every member may switch on a permanent 'do not contact me' setting, which stops all matching and messaging for that account; attempting to circumvent it, on or off noknokk, is a serious breach and grounds for immediate removal.
11. Limitation of liability and indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to rights that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, noknokk is not liable for the accuracy of any match, for anything a member writes, for the conduct or outcome of any contact or reunion, or for indirect, special or consequential loss including emotional distress arising from a search. Where liability cannot be excluded, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or refunding fees paid in the previous twelve months. You indemnify noknokk against claims, losses and costs arising from your misuse of the service, from content you post, or from contact you initiate in breach of these terms or of any court order, care order or adoption law applying to you.
12. Reporting, takedown and privacy rights
Anyone — member or not — may report a memory or ask for content about them to be removed by writing to us through the contact page. We assess urgent safety reports first and may remove content immediately while we review. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. Sensitive information about family, care or adoption history is handled under our Family Reunification and Sensitive Search Policy.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
14. Changes
We may update these terms as the product changes. Material changes will be announced in-app before taking effect.
